12 Empties of Christmas Update #5

Nearing the end of another month!  I can't believe next week is October!  I am finally seeing some progress with these products in my 12 Empties of Christmas which makes me feel more confident in finishing the 12 products up by the end of the year.

You can view my intro and other updates:

Empties so far:
1.  Marcelle Hydra-C
2.  Loreal Revitalift Moisturizer
3.  Neutrogena Deep Clean Cream Cleanser
4.  Neutrogena Clear Pore Oil Eliminating Astringent

I included this palette in my 12 Empties of Christmas since I was focusing on using it up anyways.  I finished 3 shades at the top at my last update.  I started focusing on Standoff-ish, Sultry, and Seductive along the bottom row for my eye look.  I hope to finish those three by the next update in a month.  I know I won't finish this palette because I won't get through all the dark shades.  However, a few of them are very glittery and I am not a fan so I'm unsure what I do with those shades at the end of the year.

The Snow rollerball perfume - more than half finished.  When I focus on using this, it goes pretty quickly so it could be done next update.
The pump - holds a mix of the Neutrogena foundation in this project and the Garnier BB cream in my Finish 9 by New Years to get a better shade match. I've using a tiny bit but this is what I will be focusing on now that I finished an older foundation.
Olay tone perfecting cream - great moisturizer.  I marked it at the line but I've been using it awhile and I'm guessing it is a bit less or there is some air in there.

Exuviance cleansing gel - started with this one after I finished the cream cleanser.  I've been focusing on using some samples so it hasn't gotten used as often as it should in the month of October.  I'm pretty confident this will be finished.
Neutrogena naturals face wash - I am at the line way down at the bottom so this should be finished soon!  I will add in the Neutrogena acne wash that I haven't started yet to replace it.

I use the lip balm every morning when I put on my makeup and the bronzer every day as well.  I hardly see any progress.  Bummer:)

These three products are impossible to mark.  I use the Mario Badescu serum and Ponds cream at night before bed.  I use the Kerstin Florian pads each week.  I only use 1 pad though so I'm not sure I'll finish all 50 before the end of the year unless I use more than one.  Which I might want to do so I finish them before they go bad.

I have not started two products:  Neutrogena Acne Wash and Calvin Klein Euphoria rollerball mini.  I will add these two products in when I finish one of the face washes and the Snow rollerball.

I have finished 4 of the 17 products I have in the project so I'm pretty happy with my progress at this point.

Trash or Treasure #1

Welcome to a new weekly series I'm going to start!  I use so many products during the month that they often only appear in an empties post when they deserve so much more, either because they were that good or that bad:)  So, I am going to start a new series called Trash or Treasure.  Each week I will post about one product that I have used during the week and whether I liked it or not.  The post will often be about a sample I have tried out during the week in an effort to continue to use up my samples instead of letting them collect like I did this year.  However, it could also be a full size product that I have been using as well.  Shoutout to my #instabesties for helping decide on a name for the series!

To start I'm going to talk about 3 product samples I have been using during #samplesept (see post about that here).

The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturizer - Verdict: Treasure!  This moisturizer has the vitamin C that I like to use in my products in the morning.  I have been using the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum every morning that has the citrus burst to it as well.  I like the gel like feeling of this moisturizer.  It sunk it quickly and worked well under my makeup.  It was a bit sticky when applying but did not make my skin feel sticky, just noticed it a bit on my hands.  My only gripe is that finding an actual store to purchase The Body Shop products is hard.  My Ulta carries some of them (not sure about this product specifically because I haven't looked) but otherwise I have to order online (which is fine if you can catch a free shipping with no minimum).  The full size of this product is $30.00.

No7 Protect and Perfect Advanced Serum - Verdict:  Treasure!  I like the feeling of this serum.  It is closer to a lotion than an oil so I like that it doesn't make my skin feel greasy or oily like some serums do.  I mostly wore this at night but I did try it in the morning to see how it wore under my makeup and I liked it for that purpose as well.  I know my Target sells some of these products as does my Ulta.  Prices run about $25 which is good for an anti-aging serum.

Fresh Rose Face Mask - Verdict:  Treasure!  Face masks can often irritate my sensitive skin so I never know how a sample will work for me.  This mask made my skin feel soft and hydrated without irritating it.  The rose scent was very subtle and not at all overpowering.  The drawback for me is the price.  It is $62 at Nordstrom and I feel like there are other masks that work well for a cheaper price tag.  But if I had a gift card or Sephora coupons, I would consider picking it up.

Since I am using up (or trying to use up) all my samples this month, I purposely picked some of the best ones I tried for this post.  That may not always be the case as I use what I have from current orders.

Have you tried any of these?  What did you think?

August Beauty Empties

Yay for a 3 day weekend!  It has been super hot here and it makes for a long school week.  On to the August Empties!  Happy to say I almost broke even on my empties and purchases this month:)  Most of the items I took in were from Birchbox or PinchMe (a website you can sign up for that sends free samples).  I'll talk more about what I spent and used up at the end of the post.

12 Empties of Christmas Empties:

These two items are in my 12 Empties of Christmas project.
Loreal Revitalift triple moisture - I used this as a nighttime moisturizer and it was too greasy for me.  I felt like I needed to wash my face right when I got up because it make it very greasy.  This came in a Walmart beauty box so I'm glad I got to try it out for the cost of the $5 box but I won't purchase.
Neutrogena Deep Clean cream cleanser - I purchased this awhile back when I was thought my skin was horrible and needed acne control.  This had a very strong tingly feeling when you used it.  I have changed my way of thinking and want to try some different types of cleanser.

Project Pan Empties:

These were all in my project pan that ended September 1st.
Body Mist in Oahu Sunset (BBW brand) - I'm not a fan of these.  I don't feel like they linger long enough on me and don't provide a strong enough scent.
Michael Todd Pumpkin Mask - I liked this mask.  It made my skin feel nice and smooth without any irritation.  I bought it as part of a Michael Todd set on Groupon to try out some products.  I have other masks I want to try but I would purchase this one in the future.
BeeKind lotion - I've received a few of these from Birchbox.  It is a lightweight lotion that absorbs quickly and I like the scent.  It isn't a lotion I love so much I must buy it though.
Sugar Honey and Sugar Petal balms - I'm not a fan of the formula of these.  I can't carry them with me or they melt.  So I just left them at home and applied them like a lip balm to use them up.  I wouldn't purchase these again.  I would love them if they didn't get so gross and messy.
Bliss Body Butter - I loved the scent of this and the formula was nice.  I don't think it is worth the price tag but I would use samples if I received them again.

Other Empties:
Dial Mountain Fresh Body Wash - I have a bunch of these from when they were on sale once.  They are fine as a body wash, nothing special.  I like the fresh scents.  This isn't an absolute love and repurchase for me but I'd pick it up on sale.
S&R (Sage and Row) Bare Shave Cream - I really liked this shave cream.  It is a lotion similar to the Whish ones but is much thicker and I didn't have to use very much when I shaved.  I would consider using Birchbox points for this.
Beauty Protector Treatment Mask - I love the scent of these products.  I'm not sure this mask did anything for my hair but it sure smelled good!

Sephora cotton rounds - These are my favorite cotton rounds.  You've seen them before.
Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in fair - This is my favorite concealer so far and I have tried a lot of concealers.  The formula is nice for my skin and there are good shade matches for me as well.  I dug as much as I could out of this and then tried to remove the stopper but ended up pushing it down in the tube so I can't get anything else out of the bottom.
Mary Kay Timewise Moisturizer for combo/oily - I had one of these moisturizers left from the days when I sold Mary Kay that I was using up.  It is a nice lightweight moisturizer and I would purchase it again if I didn't find another moisturizer I like as well.
Cetaphil cleaning cloths - I used these once on my face and wasn't a fan.  I used the rest to take foundation off my hand when I mixed it in the morning.  I wouldn't purchase these.

Not pictured (included in my 9 full size products finished):  Dr. Jart+ Hydration Mask and 3 shades in theBalm NudeTude palette that I'm panning.

For the month of August:
I used up 19 products (9 full size, 8 deluxe, and 1 sample)  - My yearly total is 167
I took in 20 products.
I spent $15 this month on an Urban Decay lip crayon and a Klorane makeup remover - my total for the year is $334.43

My yearly totals stand at:
$174.21 that had to be trashed (expired, bad, etc.)
$1031.88 used - Over $1000 in used product (not wasted!!!)
$-151.43 - I'm not sure I'll ever get back to 0 for my beauty budget.

I will start September with 319 products!

What have you used up and loved lately?

Beauty Blogger Book Club

This month the Beauty Blogger Book Club read Orphan Train by Christina Baker Klein.  In this story, Molly is living with a foster family and helps out Vivian to earn community service hours.  As they spend time together, Vivian tells Molly the story of how she was an orphan in New York, put on a train to the midwest, hoping to find a family.  The story jumps between present day where Molly and Vivian are working through the possessions in Vivian's attic and Vivian's journey on the orphan train.

As I have mentioned before, my favorite genre is "chick lit."  I don't usually choose historical fiction to read so I will say that I wasn't excited about this one.  However, I really liked this book.  I learned about the historical significance of orphan trains in the early 1900s.  Once I got into it, I couldn't put it down.  I wanted to know what happened to Vivian every step of the way on her journey from the orphan train to finding her family.  She is not named Vivian on the train so I was anxiously awaiting the part of the book where we find out the story behind her name.  I was also rooting for Molly and her ability to triumph over her own struggles in the present day.  I would highly recommend this book!

For September, Steph at The Wonky Brow chose I Was Here  by Gayle Forman.  I haven't heard of this book or author so I'm excited to try something new.

Check out what the other bloggers thought of the book this month:
Michelyn - Brains Beauty and Basketball
Ashley - If You Give a Girl a Ring
Lisa - Uncommon Wife Life
Lisa P - Blush and Backroads
Steph - The Wonky Brow

If you have a book recommendation for me, be sure to let me know!  What have you read lately that you loved?
