June Beauty Empties

It has come to the end of June which means it is time for my favorite post...Empties!  I love reading these and watching the videos on Youtube because I love seeing people's opinions of the products after finishing them instead of just a first impression.  I have been trying to really use up a lot of the products I have around, especially skincare and haircare and not buy too many new products for awhile.  I also have a lot of samples and foil packets I've been using up as well.  I'm not including all of those in this post but I did post mini reviews of them on my instagram.  You can check that out @hmills79.
Remember, the review of these products are my own opinions and what works for my skin, face, etc.  You may find your opinions different than mine and thats great!  This is just my experience.

First set of empties...I tried to group them by category in the pictures.
1.  Whish Shave Cream in acai grapefruit - This was a Birchbox sample.  I really liked the scent and it worked well for shaving as well.  I might purchase if I had points through Birchbox but I like what I use now and probably wouldn't switch for that reason.
2.  Suave Naturals Body Wash in everlasting sunshine - I liked this but I'm not too picky about my body wash.  I usually buy whatever is on sale and will try lots of different scents.  The only time I wouldn't repurchase was if it was a scent I didn't end up liking.  But I did like this one.
3.  N.4 Fleurs de Temps Volumizing Shampoo - This was another Birchbox sample.  I really liked this shampoo and it smelled wonderful.  Not enough uses in the sample to really tell it it was great for my hair but it is a pricey shampoo (over $30) which is more than I can budget for shampoo and conditioner which is why I won't purchase this shampoo.
4.  The Honest Co. honest healing balm - This was another sample from subscription services.  This was very greasy as a hand cream in my opinion.  I used it on my cuticles every night and I really liked it for that purpose.  I have similar products I am using now so I will not be repurchasing but I did like this in the winter for my extremely dry cuticles.

5.  Almay Oil-free gentle eye makeup remover - This was not gentle for me.  I bought it because it was free with coupons and sales at CVS and I thought I would give it a try.  It is empty because I dumped it out.  My eyes were constantly watering for a few months and I couldn't figure out why.  I worked to figure out which new products I was using might be causing it and this was the culprit.  So, I have returned to my favorite Neutrogena remover.
6.  No 7 Beautiful Skin Night Cream Normal/Dry - I bought this night cream in the winter because my skin was so dry it was flaking and I decided I need a thicker moisturizer for nighttime.  As a moisturizer, I loved this product.  It did a great job of fixing the flaky skin I was experiencing.  However, I wasn't a fan of the scent.  It was too much of a perfumey scent for what I like to put on my skin.  I probably won't repurchase for that reason.
7.  Supergoop City Sunscreen Serum - This was another sample from one of my subscription boxes.  I took it on a recent trip and it was a great travel size.  I also liked that it was for my face and seemed to be less greasy than a regular sunscreen that I would normally use on my face.  I have gotten a lot of other sunscreen samples recently so I wouldn't purchase this anytime soon but I did like it.
8.  Epice Purifying Exfoliant - This was a sample from Ipsy.  It is a face scrub that I used in the shower a few times a week.  It wasn't too scratchy (my technical term:) which I like and I felt it worked well.  However, my favorite is Vasanti which I have a full size of from Birchbox.
9.  Bond No. 9 I Love New York Holidays - A perfume sample from somewhere :)  I get so many of these, I never remember where they come from anymore.  I really liked this scent.  I can't describe scents at all but I would say it was more of a musky, spicy scent.  Not floral or sweet at all.  If I didn't have so many perfumes already, I might consider purchasing this one.
10.  Dr. Hauschka Lemon Lemongrass Vitalising Body Wash - This was a Birchbox sample this month.  I loved the scent because it was very fresh and light.  I also like the smell of lemongrass so I really enjoyed this one.  Unfortunately, I only got about two uses out of this sample.  And it is pricey for what I'm willing to spend on a body wash.

11.  Buxom Show some skin weightless foundation - I really liked this foundation.  It went on really well and blended in and felt very light on the skin.  I don't feel that it gives tons of coverage which I'm okay with, but I was able to build it some.  I have some drugstore foundations I really like so I don't feel the need to spend the money on this higher end product.
12.  Smashbox Photo Finish more than primer - This was another sample from somewhere:)  I liked this as a primer, used it mainly in my t-zone due to the blemish control part of the primer.  I have a bunch of primers to use but I would definitely purchase the full size of this product.
13.  Sugar Fresh - I really like these products but I always get disappointed by how mushy they get.  I can't get them in my purse because any type of heat melts them.  They are super moisturizing which I love.  I find if I purchase the smaller size from Sephora, I can get through them before they melt too much.  I will continue to purchase this product.  I have a few of the others such as Honey and Petal to use up first (I bought a set awhile back).

These two items are just trash.  I got them both in Ipsy bags during different months.  The Pacifica shadow duo were not very pigmented and the lighter shade had a lot of glitter which caused a lot of fallout.  I blended really well but later in the day my 7year old asked why I had glitter all over my face which means it continued to get all over my face even after I set everything.  I'm too old for a lot of glitter:)
The Be a Bombshell mascara smells horrible!  I can only describe it as a chemical plastic smell.  In addition, I found the mascara to be very goopy and I was not a fan.  However, I am throwing it away because of the smell.

Phew, sorry for all the pictures and the long post but I wanted to split up the products so you could see them well in the pictures.  Let me know your opinions on any of these or what you've used up this month!

My Beauty Subscriptions - June

I know this is so late in the month but with the end of the school year, meetings, and a few little trips we had planned I haven't been home much this month.  The good thing is that since its been a few weeks since they came, I have used most of the products and can tell you what I think.  Again for the month of June I received both Ipsy and Birchbox.  Both services are $10.00 each month.  I've done a bit more explaining in previous posts if you'd like more information but I know a lot of people are familiar with both services.

I haven't been real thrilled with products in my Ipsy bag lately (including products that were just bad - I'll include these in my empties at the end of the month).  Every month I debate canceling Ipsy so we will see how much longer I hang on.  I know lots of people complain about the sample sizes in Birchbox but I have never gotten a product from them that I didn't really like or didn't want to use at all even if they are smaller sized.

I am going to start with Ipsy this month.  The bag was designed by Rebecca Minkoff which is cool but it still was a print I wasn't a huge fan of.  I keep all these makeup bags stashed away in my linen closet.  Sometimes I'll throw jewelry in them if I'm going on a trip.  I do use one in my purse for lip products also.  But I do need to clean some of them out since there is about a year's worth in there right now.

I received:
1.  Be a Bombshell mascara - All I can say is not good.  It smells horrible and I mean horrible.  Like a plastic chemical smell.  And I was not a fan of the formula either.  It was very sticky and didn't do much for my lashes.  (You will see this again in an upcoming post:)
2.  NYX Butter Gloss in Creme Brûlée - I love these glosses and was very excited that I didn't have this shade.  This was my favorite product in the bag this month.
3.  RealTree perfume - This smells really good and I thought it would be a perfume I might want the full size of because I really liked the scent.  It wasn't too overpowering and not heavily floral for me.  However, by lunchtime, I had no idea I had ever put perfume on.  So, this is would not be something I'd purchase either.
4.  OFRA Universal brow pencil - This is supposed to be a shade that is a universal shade anyone can wear.  Unfortunately, way too dark for me on my light and sparse brows.
5.  Marc Anthony Beach Spray - This is the one product I haven't tried from the bag this month.  Once I do, I'll let you know what I think.

On to Birchbox.  My last few boxes from them have been awesome!  This month was more of the same.

I received:
1.  Cynthia Rowley Beauty Creamy Lip Stain in Valentine - This is a good size sample for a lip product considering it takes me forever to go through a full size of any lip product.  The color is brighter than what I normally wear but I really like the formula and have been wearing it for summer.  I might try another one of the shades.
2.  Dr. Hauschka Lemon Lemongrass Vitalising Body Wash - This smelled so good.  I only got about two uses out of the little tube but I really liked it.  It is more expensive than I am willing to pay for a body wash but if I saved enough points to treat myself, I might give it a try.
3.  Joie Folle de Joie Eau de Parfum - This smells really good!  I have heard others talk about how much they like this scent so I was excited to try it.  It is pricey at $98!  However, if I used up some of the perfumes I have now, I might ask for it as a gift in the future.
4.  Mally Beauty Volumizing Mascara - I like this mascara.  I think it is a good every day mascara that doesn't clump and makes my lashes look nice.  I have horribly short, straight lashes so any mascara is good and I really prefer a mostly natural look so this is a great mascara.  And at $20 its not too bad for a good mascara that isn't drugstore.
5.  Perlier Body Cream in Shea Almond - This is an other product that smells so good!  And I'll get lots of uses out of this sample since I am using as a hand cream on my nightstand.  I haven't tried it on my body but its a bit thick for summer lotion in our humid weather.  I am really liking it as a hand cream though and would definitely consider splurging on the full size of this product (Yes, I like it that much!)

So, those are my products for this month.  Anything you've tried or want to try?  Do you like that I waited and included some reviews of the products?  Let me know!

May Favorites

Time for May favorites - these are the products I reached for the most this month.  None of these were new purchases and some I use almost daily no matter what month it is, but since I just started posting about my favorites I want to include these in some of the posts.

Tarte Beauty and the Box Eye Shadow Quad in In the Buff - I bought this about a year ago from Ulta and I use it quite often.  I really like the cream color, the pinky nude color, and the brown.  The colors didn't show up real well in the picture but you can tell I don't use the third shadow often.  It is a bronze shade that often is just too orange for my tastes.  While it looks like I've hit pan on it, I've really only used that one end which the rest barely touched.  I haven't been able to find this anywhere so I'm glad I have awhile before its gone.

TheBalm Cosmetics Hot Mama shadow/blush - I use this as a blush and I love it.  I bought it quite awhile ago from Birchbox.  I posted on instagram when I hit pan on it because I never hit pan on blushes since I have so many.  It is a peachy shade with a bit of shimmer so I don't use a highlighter with it.  And I find it really lasts most of the day with no need to reapply.

Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter Crayon - This was a Birchbox product one month and I really like it.  I use it daily as my brow bone and inner color highlight.  It is completely matte, really creamy and blends easily.

Origins Super Spot Remover acne treatment gel - This is a salicylic acid product that I use on problem areas as soon as I see them flare up.  I purchased this from Birchbox to try out and I absolutely love it!  It gets rid of any spots very quickly and takes away the redness.  It also isn't too drying so I can use it multiple times a day to zap a spot right away.

E.L.F Matte lip color in Natural - Nude lips are my favorite.  I really like this shade but I find it a bit drying for me.  It is a very inexpensive lip color from ELF which is great and it twists up so I don't have to worry about sharpening if its in my bag.

Pop Pouty Pop Crayon in Petal Passion - I bought these in a set from Birchbox a few months ago (sense a theme?  I love my Birchbox points:)  Some of the colors didn't work for me so I passed them along to a friend.  This shade does not really show up with much color on my lips however I find that it is great to add moisture over any lip color.  I've been using it with the ELF lip color to keep it from being so drying.  It doesn't add any gloss or color but just a bit of moisture.

So, those are some of my favorites this month.  Let me know what you liked best or if you have any of these products as well!
