My Beauty Subscriptions - April

It's time again for my beauty boxes/bags!  I love getting these in the mail each month, its one of the best mail days:)  I am fortunate that I do not have too many problems with my skin so that I am able to try different types of makeup and skincare without too many problems.

I subscribe to Ipsy and Birchbox which are each $10.00 a month.  You can cancel anytime but you can't return or skip a box.  However, I always feel like I get my money's worth each month even if I'm not always a huge fan of every product.

This is my Birchbox for the month of April.  I received:

KIND snacks healthy grains bar in Maple Pumpkin Seeds with Sea Salt - Oh my goodness was this delicious!  I opened my bag after work and was definitely in need of snack so I ate this right away.  I would definitely search this out at a store.

Color Club Nailpolish in Gold Struck - I like this metallic color and I usually like metallic polishes because they hold up on my nails a little longer.  I'm excited to try this one out.

Shea Terra Organics Rose Hips Black Soap Deep Pore Facial Cleanser - I have not tried this out because in my opinion its more like a mask.  I was going to cleanse with it one evening and once I read the directions it said to leave on 5-10 minutes before rinsing off.  So, I need to plan ahead and use it when I have time to let it sit a bit.

Davines Oi All in One Milk - This is a leave in spray, heat protector, shine spray, etc.  It smells so good!!!!!  I have been using it and like it better than the Healthy Sexy Hair one I used up.  It doesn't make my hair feel greasy or looked heavy like some do.

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Black Eyeliner - I have used this quite a few times already and love it!  It glides on really smoothly and stays put all day.

Ipsy bag for April was better for me than last month.  Although the bag wasn't my favorite and it had a weird plastic smell but the products were pretty good.  I received:

Coastal Scents brush - I've been using this as a shader brush or for my lid color.  I really like it.

Urban Decay Eyeliner in Black Velvet - This is also a great black eyeliner.  I have been using this and the Cynthia Rowley from my Birchbox almost every day.  I'd been wanting to try Urban Decay eyeliners so I was super excited about this one.

Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion - I use these every few days and have tried many different kinds.  My favorite so far has been the Vasanti from Birchbox so we will see how this one compares.

Elizabeth Mott Pop Goes the Shadow - This is very creamy and I got a great champagne color that I can wear often.  I've used this quite a bit already and really like it.

Starlooks Lip Liner - This is a peach color that I'm not a huge fan of.  I've tried it with some gloss over it and different ways and its just not my color.  It glides on really nicely though and is super creamy so maybe if I had a different color I'd like it more.

So there you have it for this month!  Sorry this is up late, working on finishing up a big project for my master's degree.

I will include my links below...I do receive points if people sign up however you can always go to the website and sign up there as well.

Evening Skincare Routine

I am back with Part 2 of my skincare routine.  In a previous post, I showed you what I use during my morning skincare routine.  You can find that post here.

First, I take off my eye makeup using a cotton pad and the Oil-free eye makeup remover from Neutrogena.  This is my favorite eye makeup remover and I will continue to repurchase this one.

Next, I use another cotton pad to remove my face makeup.  I use the Sephora Triple action cleansing water for this step.  I like this cleansing water but I'm not totally devoted to it and will be trying some other similar products.  This is almost empty and I have the Garnier Cleansing Oil to try out next.  I do feel that using this cleansing water gets my skin much cleaner at night.  I'm not having as many breakouts which might be due to making sure my skin is cleaner before bed.

I cleanse at night with the Neutrogena Oil-free acne wash.  I am prone to breakouts, especially on my chin, around my nose, the usual spots.  I find that using this wash once a day also helps control my breakouts.  In the summer, I might use it both morning and night if my skin is really oily.

Last two steps are to moisturize my face and eye area.  I have been using the Boots No 7 Beautiful Skin Night Cream to moisturize.  I bought this at Ulta over the winter.  I've never used a heavier night cream because I was always worried about breakouts.  However, our Chicago winter was horrible this year and I had patches on my skin and forehead that were flaking off.  Not cool!  I did find that this product helped with the dryness and I'm continuing to use it since its almost gone.  However, I would not repurchase this night cream because it is, in my opinion, more heavily scented than I like for a face cream.

Finally, I use the Mary Kay Timewise Firming eye cream.  I put a little bit of this under my eyes and around my eyes, especially to combat the dry patches like I have in other places.  Under my eyes has also been dry this winter.

So that is what I've been using at night.  I have seen a big improvement in my skin in recent months.  However, I also changed a whole bunch of what I do with my skin so its hard to know what the improvement is due to:)  But I'm happy that the majority of my breakouts seem to be under control.

Do you use any similar products?  Any eye cream recommendations for when I finish up this Mary Kay one I have?

New Purchase - Lorac Kit

I have to tell you about a new purchase for me because I absolutely am loving the products!  I went to Ulta to buy the Lorac Pro mascara since I heard good things and wanted to try it.  Instead, I bought this:)  But it has the mascara!  This is called the Lorac Pro Face Tutorial.  It was $42 at Ulta for the kit but I had a 20% off coupon good on anything (they often exclude higher end brands) so I picked it up for a bit less.  Just to give you an idea, the blush and mascara alone retail for $43 if bought separately.  I had a Lorac blush once a long time ago (like 10 years:) so these were all new products to me.

The box contained POREfection Mattifying Face Primer, Pocket Pro Palette, Pro Powder Cheek Stain, Lip Lustre Gloss, Pro Mascara.  It also contained a mini flip chart with an idea for a daytime look and nighttime look.

The lip gloss is in the shade Peach.  The cheek stain is in Rosy Glow and the shades of eye shadow are beige, light brown, and espresso.

I love the eye shadow and mascara!  The eye shadows are very pigmented and easy to blend.  I use an eye primer underneath but they also had really good staying power during the day.  The mascara gave me lots of volume and made my eyelashes look great!

The cheek stain and lip gloss are okay as well.  The cheek stain is much more pigmented than I thought so I think I just need to be more careful with application.  The gloss is a nice light shade, although its a bit more glittery than I usually reach for.  I'm looking forward to trying it over some lipstick shades.

The primer is nice also.  I don't wear too many face primers so I don't have much comparison but I'm watching the wear during the day and I'll keep you updated.

I love so many of the products in this kit that I had to share it with you.  And its a great value since everything is considered full size expect for the primer.

**I was not compensated in any way for this post.  I purchased the products with my own money and all opinions are my own.

My Morning Skincare

Welcome!  Today I am showing you the products I use in my morning skincare routine.  I also have plans to show you my evening routine in the future.

My morning routine:

I cleanse my face in the shower.  I am currently using Mary Kay Timewise 3 in 1 Cleanser in combination to oily.  A few years ago, I sold Mary Kay.  When I stopped, instead of selling off all the products, I kept the ones I knew that I would continue to use.  So, the cleanser and moisturizer I use are leftover from my Mary Kay days.  I do like the cleanser and it does not cause any problems with my skin.

After I get out of the shower, I use the Neutrogena Clear Pore Oil-Elimnating Astringent.  I talked about this in my March Empties post (link here).  I get breakouts, usually on my chin (sometimes nose and forehead) and continually using this product is something I have noticed helps keep them under control.  I have tried other toners and less harsh products and my skin goes crazy so I keep coming back to this astringent.  I use it every morning, if my skin is really breaking out I might also use it in the evening.

Next, I apply the Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Serum.  I bought this after trying a sample in my Birchbox one time and this big bottle has lasted me forever!  I use a little bit on my chin, nose and forehead where I break out the most.  I apply after my astringent and before moisturizer.  I also give a little time to dry before I apply moisturizer.  I like this product, it does not fight a blemish real well once it appears, but I do feel like it keeps my skin clearer overall.

Moisturize is Mary Kay Timewise Age Fighting Moisturizer in combination to oily.  Again, I have some of these left from when I sold Mary Kay and I do like the moisturizer.  It does not make me break out and its light enough for every day use.

My eye cream is the Origins Ginzing Eye Cream.  I LOVE this stuff!  I have really dark circles (mostly due to lots of allergies I believe) and have never felt like I have found a concealer that makes me happy.  At Sephora, one of the ladies helping me suggested trying this eye cream and I will thank her forever!  I do feel that it brightens the area a bit, I put it right along my cheekbones right under my dark circles (so it doesn't get in my eyes).

So, that is what I use in the mornings before applying makeup.  For me, the eye cream and astringent are absolute musts that I will continue to repurchase.  The other products will probably get changed up as I use them up and try something new.
