March Beauty Empties

I just have a few empties to share with you this month, and very almost no makeup empties.  There isn't anything I'm just tossing this month because it absolutely isn't working.  There are a few things I have that I've been using that I'm not crazy about so they may show up next month.

On to the empties...
1.  Pantene Classic Hairspray - I'm a big aerosol hairspray fan which I know might be horrible.  But I just don't get as even of coverage with a pump as I do with an aerosol.  I've been buying Pantene for awhile but recently tried Garnier Fructis brand.  I don't go through hairspray very quickly but I am liking the Garnier.

2.  Neutrogena Clear Pore Oil-Eliminating Astringent - I've used this for awhile and will continue to repurchase it.  It is a little harsh but my skin gets crazy oily if I don't try to control it.  I've tried toners and ones without the salicylic acid but my skin gets oily really quickly and then I get little breakouts all over, especially my forehead and chin.  So, I use this every morning and it really does help.  In the summer months, I often use it at night also when I'm oilier.   I will continue to repurchase this.

3.  Jergens Ultra Healing Lotion - This was a smaller size I kept on my desk as school.  I like the scent of it and it is a thicker consistency for winter.  I've bought the full size before in the winter and I absolutely love it for my dry skin.  I would continue to repurchase this lotion as well for the colder months.

4.  Vasanti BrightenUp! - This is an exfoliator I used about twice a week in the shower.  This is a smaller sample size that came in my Birchbox one month.  This sample lasted me quite awhile and I love how soft my skin feels after I use it.  Exfoliators scare me because some turn me bright red for an extended period and I am always afraid of taking my skin off:)  I really like this one and am saving up Birchbox points so I can buy the full size.

5.  Lastly is the Tarte Clean Slate Creaseless Eye Primer - I might be an eye primer addict:)  I currently have five different ones that I am using.  I got this one as part of a Tarte set I bought last fall at Ulta.  I do like it but it isn't a standout favorite.  I have others that I would repurchase first...once I use up all the ones laying around (which may be awhile since eye primers seem to last forever, right?).

That is it for March Empties.  I don't feel like I used up too many things this month although I know I have a few things I am getting low on that will appear next month.  I hope you are enjoying my beauty posts.  I know the focus of my blog has shifted quite a bit and while I love organizing and DIY projects, there just isn't much happening on that front right now.

My Beauty Subscriptions - March

Welcome!  I am going to try to make this a monthly post so you can see all the fun goodies I collect from my Ipsy and Birchbox subscriptions.  Also, sometimes I absolutely love these products and I would love for you to know about the great ones out there.

As mentioned, these are $10.00 each and come each month.  You can cancel at any time but you can't return a box or skip a month.

We'll start with Ipsy this time.  Usually I receive 5-6 products in my Ipsy bag.  This month was only four so that was kind of a bummer.

I received a Pixi primer, NYX eye shadow Love In Rio trio in Amazonian Babes, Bare Minerals Lipstick in Get Ready, and a Chella liquid eye liner in a shade of blue.

I have not tried the primer or the eye liner yet (blue isn't really my first choice in an eyeliner:).  I have used the shadows once.  They were just okay.  I have other NYX shadows that I really like.  However, these had larger pieces of glitter instead of just being shimmery.  I'll keep trying them and see how it goes.

I like the lipstick.  It is a bit darker than I usually reach for but it is a really pretty color and feels nice on the lips so I put a little bit of a lighter gloss over the top which made me more comfortable.  Overall I wasn't crazy about this bag.

On to Birchbox.  I was immediately excited when I opened it because I absolutely love Stila Lip Glazes.  I already own them in about four colors, luckily not this one:)

I also received a shampoo by Keims, Air Repair salve which you can use on hands, lips, cuticles, etc. The other two items were a serum/primer for the face and the Jergens BB Body lotion.

I have used the shampoo a few times.  I like it but it isn't anything fantastic that I would feel the need to pay a higher price for.  I love the lip glaze, of course.  The serum I've used once as a light moisturizer/primer on a light make up day.  It felt really nice on the skin but I haven't used it enough to see if it does anything for my skin.

I have not tried the Air Repair although I'm looking forward to trying it on my dry, winter cuticles and I haven't tried the Jergens lotion yet.

I actually liked the items in my Birchbox better this month.  Often, those on Youtube and other bloggers think Ipsy always "wins."  I really like Birchbox even if the products are smaller because they aren't often products I would go out and try.  With Ipsy, I would buy a NYX shadow, Pixi product, or Bare Minerals at my local store.  While they are both a good value, I feel Birchbox really gives me products I wouldn't normally try.  That's my two cents and purely my opinion:)

I will include my links below...I do receive points if people sign up however you can always go to the website and sign up there as well.

As always, these boxes are purchased with my own money.  I was not compensated in any way for this post and all opinions are my own.

Breakfast Tacos

We have good family friends who live in Austin.  Back in the fall we visited them and had the most delicious breakfast tacos.  Now, I can't begin to recreate them and have them taste as yummy as the ones we had, but we've made our own a few times.

The recipe is super easy and you can make them with whatever filling you prefer.  The great thing about this breakfast is that I make them on a Sunday morning, but make extra of the fillings.  Then, I wrap them up for breakfast for the family for the rest of the week.

Here is one of the tacos before I wrapped it up.  I scrambled eggs and added crumbled bacon and cheese on top.  We like flour tortillas because I can't keep a corn tortilla from cracking:)

Here it is all wrapped up and ready for the fridge.  Then we can grab them in the morning and reheat at home or at work.

Breakfast Tacos: (this recipe can be adapted depending on your choice of fillings)
1 Dozen eggs
1 package bacon
cheddar cheese
Salsa (hubby likes to top his with salsa)

I scramble the eggs and cook the bacon.  I like to cook the bacon in the oven (less mess).  Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  Then cook bacon on a rack in a cookie sheet with an edge for 20 minutes.  I put it on paper towels on a plate after it comes out to soak up a bit of the extra grease.
Then take a flour tortilla, fill with eggs, top with crumbled bacon, and cheese.

I can make about 15 tacos with a dozen eggs but yours may vary depending on the size of your tortillas and the amount of filling you prefer.

Thanks for stopping by!

February Makeup Empties

Hooray for March!  I only hope that it gets warmer.  It has been super cold and snowy here in Chicago for months now.  I'm just asking for some 40s...thats not too bad, I don't think:)

I collected some products that I used up during the month of February.  A few products aren't empty but after attempting to use them for a bit, it just wasn't something I would want to continue to use.

I will start with the products that just were a "no go" for me.

1.  Be a Bombshell "The One Stick" in girl crush - this was a light pink shade that was intended to be a multiple use stick for cheeks, eyes, lips, etc.  It was very chunky and left a lot of product on whatever area you applied it to.  I tried it mainly has a highlighter on my cheeks because it was a very pale pink but it left a ton of product on my cheeks and then it didn't blend out really well.

2.  Pixi bronzer - I got this in an Ipsy bag last fall and tried to use it for awhile.  I don't know if the shade is too light or the formula isn't great but I never felt like it was showing up on my skin.  I have rather light skin so that usually isn't the case with a bronzer.

3.  Elizabeth Mott Smooth Shadow pencil in pearl - this was another Ipsy bag item.  It is a very small tipped pencil to be a shadow.  My biggest complaint thought was the glitter.  When I tried to blend it with my finger either under my brow bone or on my lid as a base, it left large pieces of glitter which I don't like.

On to the empties:

1.  Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream - this was a sample from Sephora and I have already repurchased it.  It has a slight menthol smell and is greasy but I love to use it on my cuticles, especially at night before bed.  Since repurchasing, I have found a balm by Honest that came in Birchbox that I might like even better.  You'll probably see it in my next empties post.

2.  Grow Luscious by Revlon mascara - I love this mascara and often repurchase it when I don't feel like trying something new.  It has a big brush which I like.

3.  Cargo Triple Action Mascara - this came from Ulta in a little kit of Cargo products.  I did not like it.  I felt it did nothing for my lashes.

4.  Jo Malone perfume in Nectarine Blossom and Honey - I bought a Jo Malone cologne awhile back and they gave me a whole handful of samples in other scents and this is one of the last few I have left.  I would definitely purchase the scent in a full size, although there aren't many Jo Malone scents that I don't like.  It is a light fruit scent that I really like.

5.  Tocca Handcream in Grapefruit Cucumber - another Birchbox sample from awhile back.  I love hand creams and will always use them up, especially in our cold Chicago winters (I may have mentioned them before:).  The scent was okay.  I probably won't repurchase this one specifically just because I wasn't so in love with it that I need a full size.

6.  Beauty Protector Protect and Detangle Leave in Conditioner - a sample size that came in a Birchbox and I loved the way it made my hair feel.  I would spray it into damp hair, comb through and then blow dry.  My hair was nice and soft, but I would not repurchase due to the smell.  I describe it as cotton candy and it stayed in my hair so I kept smelling it throughout the day.  Lots of people like this product and I did too, but the scent just wasn't for me.

I hope my mini review help you in finding something new to try!  Remember, everyone has different preferences and something that didn't work for me, might work for you.

All opinions are my own and products were purchased with my own money.  I was not compensated in any way for this post.
