October Beauty Empties

Yay for fall!  I'm excited fall has arrived here in the midwest with pretty leaves and fall temps.  This is a slow empties month.  I have a lot of full sizes I am working through instead of samples or even deluxe sized samples.  I have some products I want to finish before the end of the year.  Then I will open up and go through some of my deluxe sized samples.

Here are my empties for October.

Up and Up cotton rounds - I like these and they are cheap.  I bought the multi pack so I have a few packages to finish but then I will probably repurchase.  I don't include cotton rounds in my product totals.

Neutrogena Naturals face wash - This was part of my 12 Empties of Christmas so I'm excited to have it finished for that project.  I liked this as a gentle face wash in the shower, especially if I was using a facial scrub as well.  There are other facial washes I want to try but I liked it enough to repurchase.

Olay tone perfecting cream - Also part of my 12 Empties of Christmas.  I really like this moisturizer.  It was nice and lightweight for daytime and wore well under my makeup.  I'm not sure it lives up to the claims of improving the tone of your skin but it worked to moisturize.  The drawback is it is pricey for a drugstore product.  I can get some higher end moisturizers for almost the same price and the full size comes in a pot (not a fan).

Tresemme tres two hairspray - I bought this because of Youtube (yes, I'll admit it) and I don't understand the hype.  I prefer the Garnier hairspray I usually use and won't repurchase this one.

Chapstick - I bought multi packs of these a long time ago because they were cheap and I'm still working through them.  Now that I realize how long it takes me to work through a lip balm, I think I'd prefer to spend the money on a quality one knowing that they last me a few months ( as opposed to buying them cheap because I go through them quickly).

Demeter Snow rollerball - This has never had much scent for me.  It is so light I can't even tell I put it on.  I used this up as part of my 12 Empties of Christmas project and I won't purchase these (this one came in an Ipsy bag).

Lady Gaga Fame - This sample came in a Walmart beauty box but I was not a fan of the scent.  It isn't one I would want to purchase.  I used it awhile ago and can't remember exactly why though:)

Well People expressionist mascara - This sample was okay but I have wimpy lashes and it didn't do enough for me.  It was a very nice natural look but it didn't get me enough volume for what I want on a daily basis.

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara - I absolutely loved this!  It made my lashes look full and long.  It rivals Mally volumizing as my favorite and I'd definitely repurchase!

Stila Kajal eyeliner in Amethyst - This is my holy grail eyeliner but this color has been discontinued:(  I love the formula but what I love most is the purple shade.  I bought about 5 when it was being discontinued so I have plenty of backups (yay!).

I only have a few samples and I didn't review them on Instagram so I thought I'd include them here:
Loreal Color Vibrancy conditioner - I don't color my hair so I don't really have a need for this product.
Loreal Total Repair 5 Mask - I loved this hair mask and if I ever use all my samples, I would purchase this!
Olly Beauty vitamins - I'm including these because they came in a Target Beauty Box and I wanted to let you know what I thought (they aren't included in my product total).  Not a fan of the artificial grapefruit taste.  They claim to help with hair, skin, and nails but one use is not enough for me to tell you if those claims hold true.  I didn't like the flavor enough to want to try any more though.

My October Totals...
October started with 282 products.
I used 11 products (4 full size, 4 deluxe, and 3 samples).
I took in 29 products through beauty boxes, free samples, and a Birchbox order.
October ends with 300 products which is where I will start November.

I have spent $433.93 so far this year on products.  This total is still far less than past years so I am feeling okay with it.

I have used 257 total products this year.  I'm still hoping to make it to 365 but we will see:)

I have used up $1157.82 in products this year!!

How has your empty journey been going?  What have you used up?  Let me know in the comments!

12 Empties of Christmas Update #6

It is the 25th of October which means it is time to update my progress on 12 Empties of Christmas.  I can't believe that Christmas is 2 months away!  It seemed like I had so much time to complete this project and now the end is quickly approaching.

So far I have finished:
1.  Marcelle Hydra-C moisturizer
2.  Loreal Revitalift moisturizer
3.  Neutrogena Deep Clean cream cleanser
4.  Neutrogena Clear Pore Oil Eliminating astringent

Empties for Update #6: (I will post reviews of the products in my empties post)
5.  Olay Tone Perfecting Moisturizer
6.  Demeter Snow Rollerball perfume
7.  Neutrogena Naturals cleanser

Here is my progress on the NudeTude palette from TheBalm.  I included this as one of my items since I was working on panning it this year.  As you can tell, I won't finish the palette.  I'm not a fan of the bottom 3 shades and Sophisticated due to the amount of glitter in them and if I don't finish them, I probably won't worry about keeping them.  I am almost finished with Stand-offish and Seductive and I have a good dip in Sultry even though it is hard to tell.  I will move onto Selfish next when I finish Seductive.  I continue to use Sexy every day along my bottom lash line.

I am using the Ponds moisturizer and Mario Badescu serum every night.  Both are hard to tell progress on so I am hoping they will be finished in time.  I use the peel pads each week and I doubt I will use all of the pads left.

You can see my progress marks on the Exuviance cleanser for the past month.  I had the Neutrogena acne wash in this project but when I opened it and used it this month, my skin got really irritated.  So I put it to the side and bought this Garnier cleanser instead.  I hope to finish it by the end of the year too.

Final items are my makeup items.  I am using the Soap and Glory lip balm every morning when I apply my makeup.  I'm working on the bottom edge but I don't think this will be gone in the next few months. I should have started focusing on it earlier in the project.  I just started with the Calvin Klein Euphoria mini rollerball since I finished the other perfume in the project.  I use the bronzer every day even though you can't see progress:)  My goal is to hit pan at this point since I won't use it up.

The pump is a mixture of the Neutrogena foundation in this project and the Garnier BB cream in my Finish 9 by New Years project.  I wasn't a fan of the shades on their own but it is a better match with them mixed and I've found if I apply it with my fingers, I get a look I like (I didn't like how it looked with a brush).  Once it is gone I will mix the rest of the 2 foundations together again to finish them up.

I have finished 7 products so far for this project.  I am unsure I will finish 5 more but I am trying my best.  Any products I can move out to make room for new products or just to diminish the amount of products I have is fine by me.  I have 10 products left of the 17 I started the project with.

How are your projects going?  Let me know if you are participating in any of the challenges floating around so I can follow your progress.

Love to Project Pan: Finish 14 by February 14th

So, I think I'm a bit addicted to projects:)  I currently have 12 Empties of Christmas and Finish 9 by New Years going and, for some crazy reason, feel like I need to join another one.  I just love all these ladies on Youtube and when they start projects, I want to join in!  This one was started by Kristen Kay and Glamour with Grace.

I have chosen to participate in this project since I don't have anything carrying over into 2016.  I did include some deluxe sized samples in this project because I don't tend to be very successful with my projects and don't ever come close to finishing.  However, I think by putting some "easier" products in, I might not be as frustrated with myself.  Here is what I am including...

Benefit Fake Up - Deluxe sized sample but I don't see myself liking this concealer so I just want to use up this little bit and be done.
Tarte poreless primer - I'm not a huge fan of this primer and it is one that I need to use up this winter because it makes me oily in the summer.  This is another deluxe sized sample and you can see it is almost gone but I don't use much so it will still last awhile.
Vapour Aura multi-use in courtesan - I have had this cream blush for almost a year so I want to be sure I continue to use it up before it goes bad.
Elf blush in mellow mauve - I am currently layering this blush with the Vapour so I included it as well.

NYX eye shadow single in white pearl - I use this every day as a base for my other shadows.  I have a pretty good dip going in the one corner so hopefully this is finished in the next few months.
Coastal Scents Revealed 2 sampler in ballerina - I am almost finished with my palette I've been working on this year so I thought I would incorporate these shades with some the crease shades I am still working on in TheBalm palette.
Jouer eyeliner in gris - I've had this awhile and need to finish it before it dries up.
NYX wonder pencil - I bought this nude pencil for my waterline but after many attempts, I just can't do liners on my waterline.  They irritate my eyes too much.  I have begun using this as a base on my eyelids so I'm including it in the project with the intent to continue to use it as a base.

Laneige Sleeping Mask and Acure Cell Stimulating facial mask - I'm not a big mask user.  I usually forget to do them so I'm including these two masks so I try to use them at least once a week.

I am including 4 of my oldest lip products to try to use them up before I would have to throw them away.
NYX lipstick in Thalia
Stila lipgloss in Super Plum
Smashbox gloss in Forever
Tarte lip pencil in Energy (the one that adjusts color when you put it on)

Here are my starting marks for all the products.  The NYX lipstick is upside down because I ran out of room on the bottom of the page:)

Thank you all for following along on my project panning journey!

Trash or Treasure #2

I have had this post waiting and had a few moments to tell you about another trash or treasure product. This was another treasure from all the products I tried during #samplesept.

I tried the Mario Badescu cellufirm drops and I loved the texture and how the product applied. It did not make me greasy or oily overnight.

I currently use Mario Badescu peptide renewal serum and I find that it makes me greasy and I was looking for another product to take its place. I will be picking up a full size of the cellufirm drops next.

Although my September sample project is over, I plan to try out a sample each week or at least a few times a month and will review them for you so I'm sure they won't all be treasures like the two I've posted so far:)

Finish 9 By New Years Update #1

This is my first update for Finish 9 by New Years.  I am a few days past the first of the month but school and family life has been keeping me super busy since summer ended and I find my blogging time to be lacking.  I do love it though so I'm trying to find a good schedule I can stick to.

I started Finish 9 by New Years on September 1st.  I rolled over 9 products from my Project 20 Pan that I didn't finish.  You can check out the intro post here.

I already finish 2 products!  I didn't anticipate finishing them so quickly but I have to say it is so nice to have a few products done!

Finished products:
Elf high definition undereye setting powder - so happy this is done because I wasn't a fan...too much glitter
NYX blush in dusty rose - I've been working on this for over a year and I'm very excited it is finished

You can see the newest mark of progress.  The Vasanti scrub is slow but steady progress.  When I take off the cap, there seems to be a lot of air so hopefully I'll hit a point where this goes quickly.  I feel like the lotion is the same way.  There really isn't too much left in the tub and hopefully the lotion will be finished by the next update but that might be wishful thinking.

I haven't used these two products for the most part.  I mixed the Garnier BB cream with another foundation and I am using that combo every day.  I would guess this tube is about half full still.  I have not used the Jouer liner yet because I have been focusing on the other liner in the project.

The Stila liner is very close to being done.  I sharpened it again this morning and it is getting very small to be able to use without making a crazy line.  The Clarins eye concentrate is almost finished although I will miss it:(  I'm making progress on the Stila balm although because the tube is slanted I'm not sure how it will go once I get close to the plastic at the bottom.  I'm not sure I'll be able to apply the last bit without making a mess.

Here are the progress marks for the liner and lip balm.  You can see my progress on the Stila liner and balm with no progress mark on the Jouer liner.  I won't make the Stila liner all the way to the bottom of the page because I accidentally marked the purple part that won't sharpen but you can still see progress.

I'm hoping to have a few more finished products by next update.  I am also doing 12 Empties of Christmas so I will have a lot of products to be sure to finish by the end of the year.  I'm hoping some of these are finished at the November and December updates so I don't have as many products to worry about by the time December comes.

What projects are you working on?  Let me know so I can watch your progress?

September Beauty Empties

Fall has definitely arrived here.  It is barely 50 today and super windy.  I might need to break out the boots and a jacket for dinner tonight!  I love fall but I'm not sure where the sunny 50 and 60s went.  I'd be happy with those:)

It is time for September empties!  During the month of September, I took part in a challenge called #samplesept.  I started the challenge on Instagram and had quite a few of my IG friends join in which was super fun.  My goal was to focus on using up my foil packet samples during the month.  I posted about those on IG so I won't be posting reviews of all of them here but I will be including them in my totals at the end of the post.

Project Pan Empties:  These products are part of my Finish 9 by New Years project I started on September 1st.  They are both carry overs from my project 20 pan that I didn't finish which is why I finished them so quickly.  Although, I honestly thought they would both be holding on a lot longer than they did.

ELF high definition undereye setting powder - I picked this up for under my eyes (hence the name:) after seeing lots of people talk about it on Youtube.  It worked okay for setting purposes but I did not like the glitter in it.  It was very noticeable on me and I wasn't a fan.  I'm trying out other setting powders and will not repurchase.
NYX blush in Dusty Rose - I loved the shade and formula of this blush.  However, I have so many blushes that I already own and other blushes that I want to try that I won't repurchase it.

Body Care Empties:
Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion -  I kept this lotion next to my kitchen sink and used it on my hands after I washed dishes or if they were dry during the day.  I really like this lotion because it isn't greasy and I can do other things around the house without my hands being gross.  I had two of them so I have put a back up next to my sink.  I'd repurchase this lotion at some point, especially for my hands.
Palmer's Cocoa butter formula lotion - This was very thick and hard to get out of the bottle.  It definitely smelled like cocoa butter and the scent was very strong to me.  I'd keep thinking I was smelling chocolate and realize it was me.  Not good.  So I wouldn't purchase this product.
Ulta Passionberry vanilla body lotion - I liked the scent of this lotion and would purchase other Ulta products in this scent.  This lotion was okay for summer but would not be moisturizing enough for me in the winter.  I have a lot of lotions to finish before I ever need to buy one but I do like this scent and may pick up a shower gel or hand lotion when I need those.
BBW Pink Sugarplum shower gel -   This had been laying around half used up for quite awhile so I went ahead and finished it.  The scent is too sweet for me and isn't one I would repurchase.
Air Repair Rescue Balm - This is a Holy Grail product for me!  I put this on my cuticles every night.  I haven't repurchased yet and I notice how much dryer my cuticles seem and they are peeling a lot more.  I definitely need to purchase this ASAP!

Skincare Empties:
Clear Pore Oil eliminating astringent -   This product works great at controlling breakouts but may be more harsh than my skin really needs.  I'm trying out some other products and I doubt I will go back to this one anymore.
Ulta exfoliating cotton pads - These shed like crazy!  I won't buy these again.  I was always getting fuzz in my eyes and my contacts.
The Body Shop tea tree oil -   I've started using this in my areas that are prone to breakout along with my current toner.  It seems to be working to keep breakouts at bay.  I have already repurchased.

Makeup Empties:
Cover Girl ready set gorgeous foundation - Again, I fell prey to the youtube hype.  This just didn't work well for me.  It made me oily in areas and didn't stay put as long as I'd like.  I won't repurchase and will continue my hunt for my perfect foundation.
Smashbox camera ready bb cream - I got this as a Sephora sample with purchase because I really wanted to try and it and I could pick the shade.  Then, instead of the fair/light shade I picked, I got light/medium.  It was too dark for me.  However, in the summer months, the cover girl became too light so I ended up mixing the two products and the shade worked out alright.  If I could get a sample in my actual shade, I would like to try this product again.
Maybelline color tattoo in barely branded -  This was another product I had been trying to use up for a long time so I am glad to say it is finished.  It was okay as a base but I think I would prefer a pencil form.  I have many pencils that I will be using up before I purchase any sort of eye base again, though.

I don't have many full size or even deluxe sized empties this time since many products were put on hold while I used up my sample stash.  I am so excited about all the full size makeup products I was able to finish this month though!

My September totals:
I used up 79 products!!!! (8 full size, 4 deluxe size, 7 were decluttered (wrong shade or formula for me) and I used up 60 samples)
I added 42 products - a gift with purchase from Ulta was a lot of deluxe sizes and samples and I got a 10 piece mystery bag from Bare Minerals.  It was well worth the $30 and I am so glad I went ahead and got it but those added quite a few products this month.  My purchases this month were $66.  Total for the year is $400.43.

Start September - 319
Total Used - 79
Total Added - 42
Start October - 282 - so glad to be under 300!

So far this year I have had to trash $174.21 in products - mostly due to expiration, bad smell, etc.
I have used up $1,106.75 in products!!!  I have used a total of 246 products in 2015.  I am still hoping to hit 365!

Are you trying to use up products?  How is it going?

Beauty Blogger Book Club

The beginning of a new month means it is time for a book review!  This month Steph picked I Was Here by Gayle Forman.  This is a young adult novel and I wasn't quite sure how I was going to like it.  I don't usually pick up young adult novels to read unless I need to read it for school with my students.

In the story, Meg and Cody are best friends.  Meg has gone away to college and while there, commits suicide.  Cody goes to pack up her belongings and realizes there is a lot she didn't know about Meg.  Cody digs into Meg's computer and discovers missing emails and encrypted files that lead her on a journey to discover why Meg chose to take her own life.

This was part young adult novel, part mystery for me.  Once Cody got to Meg's college and started finding out how much she didn't know about Meg, there were so many questions I wanted the answers to.  I couldn't put this book down, waiting to see what Cody would find out about Meg and if we would ever find out what led to Meg's suicide.  Throughout Cody's "investigation" we also see what she discovers about herself and her role in Meg's life.  I would definitely recommend reading this book and I want to read the other books by Gayle Forman.

For October, Michelyn has chosen Eight Hundred Grapes by Laura Dave.  While looking for this book at the library, I read the book jackets of others by the same author so I am very intrigued to read this one.

Check out what the other book club members thought of our September book:

Would love to have you read October's book along with us!  Any book suggestions?  I'm always looking to add to my list!
